New legislation, "An Act to Provide Access to Fertility Care", went into effect on January 1st, 2024, requires that insurance companies offering policies in Maine must now include fertility treatments in their coverage.
Fertility treatment coverage is specific to your insurance plan. Please contact your insurance provider to determine your coverage; our billing department is not able to verify your insurance coverage for you. Federal insurance plans are exempt from this state requirement. A diagnosis of infertility, as recognized by a healthcare provider, is required to utilize fertility treatment coverage.
While your plan may cover fertility services, prior authorization (pre-approval) from your insurance company will likely be needed prior to each treatment/cycle.
Patients will be responsible for notifying our billing department (Phone #: 207-885-8400, Option 5) on the 1st day of their period, if they are planning for an IUI that cycle, to allow ample time for prior authorization to be initiated and a determination made.
If your insurance company does not have fertility coverage, your prior authorization is denied, or if you do not provide our office with ample time to request a prior authorization, our billing department will discuss payment options with you prior to proceeding with the IUI.
