Ultrasound

We perform both obstetrical and gynecological sonograms in our offices. A sonogram is a quick and painless test. A picture is actually created on a TV-like screen by means of an ultrasonic scanner. This scanner or probe (vaginal or abdominal) sends out sound waves which create echoes as they encounter different types and densities of tissue. These various echoes are then reproduced on a TV screen in various shades of gray; this is known as a sonogram.

Performed by - We have highly-trained registered diagnostic medical sonographers (R.D.M.S.) who specialize in gynecologic and obstetrical ultrasound, two of whom are certified by AIUM to perform nuchal translucency screening tests.

Technology - Coastal Women’s Healthcare continues to use cutting-edge technology, most recently adding a 3D/4D ultrasound machine. A second 3D/4D machine will be in operation this fall.

Accreditation - Our practice is accredited by the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM).

Accreditation by the AIUM demonstrates a facility’s clinical excellence and its commitment to the highest quality patient care when providing diagnostic ultrasound services. To become accredited, a practice must undergo a rigorous and detailed application process.

There are no states or federal laws overseeing the performance of diagnostic ultrasound. AIUM accreditation, which is a voluntary process, gives patients the assurance that a facility is qualified to perform their ultrasound examinations.
